similar problem. I'd setup a media system for my TV and had been
playing mpeg4 videos back on it for some time without issue. Tonight I
went to play a video file and the display was blank, yet the audio was

I no longer have the 8.10 system available for testing. The system has
been moved to the current 9.04 alpha.
While the system was running 8.10 manually selecting either the British
or English dictionary in each application did fix the spell checking.
However, it was a manual configuration change,

it correctly, the main idea is to get debugging symbols for the
application in question installed and then capture a backtrace of the
application when it crashes. However,

Further investigation reveals the drive may be failing as even connected
to different system running a different operating system it still
doesn't behave quite right. I'm awaiting a replacement and will update
this report once I've had a chance to test with the new drive.

display and those changes are still present in the current gconf

On a different system I noticed that gweather-applet-2 was reporting
usage of around 55MB. Granted the system does have two instances of the

A friend of mine was recently bit by this bug too. They also upgraded
to 7.04 from 6.10. After the upgrade, the system would simply hang at
the busy cursor while loading GDM. To correct the problem on their
machine I purged gdm and ubuntu-desktop (since it depends on gdm) and
reinstalled them.
I haven't experienced this bug with any of the recent upgrades. The
steps for solving it, if experienced are listed within this bug report.
As also indicated within the report, all the systems I own have long
since been upgraded.
