indicates the .rm file will play in totem for a few seconds without
video (the clip is much longer) then suddenly stops.

In regards to the reported issue, what results did you get by trying
to connect to the mailserver through telnet?As for installing Ubuntu
on a Mac you might wanted to post that question on one of the answer
boards as bug reports are just for reporting software problems.
