Why is this Incomplete and low!? The problem -- if I understand it
correctly -- is that the AuthInfoRequired entry is added to the
printer's definition even if you enter explicit authorization
credentials instead of clicking the Prompt user if authentication is
required radio button in the Device

Just to quantify the problem a bit, several of the program descriptions
in the Startup Programs (default) tab in the Sessions Preferences dialog
are too long to display. Previously you could at least resize this
dialog if you wanted to be able to read them, but this is no longer

I am still able to repro on a Hardy box, yes.
I downloaded the codectest zip file. I removed the .rm and .swf files
as well as wheeliesorensonvideo2cbr.mov (because I don't believe there
are codecs for those; in any event, the codec installer buddy thingy
can't suggest anything for those) and

If the repro steps I posted before are not adequate, I'm frankly at loss
here. Freshly installed system, download the codec test package, unzip,
run totem on the extracted files. Expect totem to be able to play the
first movie without requiring a restart. Experience that it will not
work until
Clarification: the codec is missing, but it would be nice if either (a)
Totem, or the codec installer thing, would tell me that I need to
restart Totem in order for things to work; or (b) even better, if no
restart was required.

I uploaded some typescripts to bug #159130 which also coincidentally
illustrate this problem quite vividly. Some of the chatter is from the
video codec installer buddy or whatever it's called, but anyway, feel
free to have a look at those, too. I think they make the point that
even though the
I reinstalled Gutsy from scratch, which gave me a good opportunity to
try to repro this.
I hope the following notes are reasonably complete.
1. Setting up
Fresh Gutsy install.
Basic Apt configuration:
System - Administration - Software Sources
- Ubuntu Software tab: uncheck Gutsy
Attaching first transcript.
First round out of three. Summary: Installed bad, ffmpeg, ugly,
and fluendo plugins, but only MPEG2 displays. Many errors and
confusing messages and false starts.
(The test set consists of 9 video files, 8 of which I managed to
eventually get to play. There's also
Second round out of three; summary: Installed multiverse bad codecs.
Like before, only MPEG2 displays OK, others still not; in effect, no
visible progress. Some clips play audio only; many still abort with
errors.

Incidentally, I don't believe the presence of an RM file in the playlist

The Visual thing in particular is extremely opaque. I was about to
file a bug about that, but let me instead just chime in here.
Searching for visual in yelp suggested that AT might stand for
assistive technologies (but did not unambiguously resolve the issue
for me); still, it's not clear what
Launchpad bug #121525 (confirmed, priority low) is about the Visual
problem specifically. I think it's more grave than the rest of this
report, so maybe the corresponding part of this bug could be marked as
invalid (I'm sure Sebastien Bacher is eager to bite ... sorry,

Happens here too, Gutsy installer running with persistent from a USB

This one was created by opening a 454x214 pixel new document, typing in
fnord with the text tool in 128-pixel Sans Bold, and running the
Script-Fu Alpha to Logo Alien Glow ... thingy.
You'll notice it was cropped down to 390x150 and that the nice glow
effect is thus gnawed from the edges.
