I tried to get Beryl working, changed Gnome theme, switched back to a
Gnome session and I can't get focus. The same problem with Alt+Tab and
all that.
I'll reinstall metacity to see what would happen.

I add this: I installed qemu and kqemu following this guide:

Reinstalling metacity and metacity-common didn't solve the problem. :-(
I had this bug when this started to fail:
Please ignore all my past comments... this is a xmodmap issue. I erased
this line from my session startup programs:
xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.la
And I've got focus as normal. I hope this info could be useful. :-D
I had added this line to get my keyboard working under Beryl.

The solution does not work anymore. The problem came back after I switched my

The same problem rose after I upgraded to Ubuntu Edgy.

didn't work.
I solved this issue by renaming all my .gnome and .gnome2 pref folders thus
forcing gnome to recreate them.

Opening it on gnome-menus seems to have been a launchpad bug. Actually I
did choose gnome.
I have this problem on edgy - the window preferences are default.

Thanks for your bug. You opened it on gnome-menus, do you have that
issue with the panel menu? What version of Ubuntu do you use? What focus
settings do you use (System, Preferences, Windows)?
