I've switched my production machine to Mint 14.1 (a deriviative of
Ubuntu 12.10) with their Cinnamon desktop environment, and the problem
has gone away. I'll try to reproduce on Quantal on my test machine, and
report back. It may be that the problem has been fixed somewhere between
Oneric and
Ubuntu doesn't seem interested in this bug (it's been around for a long
time apparently) and I've noticed other people reporting the same bug.
Nero Linux seems to have its own problems (can't seem to write dual
layer DVDs and can't handle upper and lower case correctly for blu-ray
using UDF (and
me too, burning multiple cd's with brasero, every new cd gives the
error, brasero keeps on going none the less...

fetch for host which is non-fatal i.e. the GPU should continue
functioning afterwards. The problem would be if that error-state is
masking a later and fatal GPU hang. Though I would not expect you to
notice unless you tried to

get the fixes backported. Having said that, it should be as easy as:
