Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the
KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. But don't worry! This
issue is being tracked by the KDE developers at:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289920. Once fixed in KDE, it will
be included in Kubuntu
The bugfix was released with Kubuntu packages for Precise. Please
upgrade to KDE SC 4.12 via the Kubuntu Backports PPA.

Is this really new for trusty? I would have thought that you never have
been able to select session type for the guest session that way. Please
note that no guest account exists by the time you click the button; a
temporary account is created afterwards.

Same problem here with Lubuntu 14.04 64bit both as a live USB system on
"real" hardware or in Virtualbox, and also as a full install in
Virtualbox.

Can you get a backtrace of the crash with gdb?
Note that there is no EXA support for Southern Islands and newer
Radeons, Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" just disables all hardware
acceleration with those.

Yepp, that time line sounds about right to me too.
Given that gnome-terminal 3.6.2-0ubuntu1 is from the 16th of December I
would assume then that the issue is due to some gnome/unity change.
