I then opened "Language and Region" setting, removed "Chinese (Pinyin)"

It's not triaged. The ability to click on the volume button and then
scroll the mouse slider, as long as you are moused-over a tiny area is
not an effective solution. This bug should be considered confirmed.

I've downgraded to 2.8.5+dfsg1-4build4, and it doesn't solve the problem
nor change the syndrome. My gcin 2.8.9 came from simply "sudo apt
install gcin" from unknow/whatever default repository. Sorry this is
probably not the most helpful information, and thanks for the help!

I never experienced the same kind of problem with ibus-libpinyin in
Ubuntu 19.04. But since 19.04 is going to be EOL'd in a couple of
months, I have no interest whatsoever in wasting my very limited time
beating a soon-to-be-dead-horse visiting this (to me) non-issue.
(Suppose we find the problem,

submitted bug #1800640 for LO 6.0.6.2. There is even a screenshot
attached to that bug report where you can see it for yourself. The text
in the two screenshots is the same except for the sentence in English
and a couple of words after
