Each time my laptop is suspended and resumed, Network Manager seems
unable to bring up Wifi.

makes the menu appear, but as soon as you move your mouse over the menu
and it gains focus, it gives you about half a second max before

I've been using an external screen, (as an extended desktop). When I
travel home from the office, I turn it off (in Gnome Display manager,
so that only the laptop's primary screen is active), physically
disconnect it, and suspend the laptop to travel.

Dell monitor, with two different, high-quality VGA cables, suggesting
that it's a driver issue. A reboot of the machine with the monitor
attached is a workaround for the issue with the Samsung as well.

improve power-saving behaviour. Having used Ubuntu Gnome Saucy for some
time with xorg-edgers, I decided to roll back to xswat for stability
reasons (was getting crashes when playing flash/Youtube within
Chromi
I can confirm that with my current configuration, with a new install
based on Ubuntu Gnome Saucy, and with gksu installed, this
authentication error has been eliminated. Perhaps you could consider
gksu as a recommended dependency for the Ubuntu deb.

Attempting to unmount, kill nautilus or force-unplug the iPod had no
effect, so I ran

...which killed the iPod mount and caused Rhythmbox's hanging on blank
alert box behaviour to resolve itself.

Having deleted all the songs from my iPod Touch 16GB I was trying to put
another 10GB of songs back on.
Wasn't optimistic, thanks to Apple's obfuscated protocols, and sure
enough about a half hour later the whole thing had hung, with a blank
alert box and a greyed out screen.
If you don't have gedit, then you can use any text editor to edit the
file /etc/pm/config.d/modules but you have to run the editor with
administrative privileges otherwise you won't be able to save the file.
For example from the command line you could run...
sudo vi /etc/pm/config.d/modules
...or
I found a workaround for this. On my system I ran the following on the
command line...
gksudo gedit /etc/pm/config.d/modules
...and added the line...
SUSPEND_MODULES="ath5k ath mac80211 cfg80211"
