that 12.10 was also affected were you attempting an upgrade or a fresh
install?

This is incredibly old and most likely a dupe of an ancient bug dealing
with nvidia's proprietary drivers. The issue has since been fixed.
If a similar error is existant in newer iterations of Compiz, please
file a new report.
