Downloaded the ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso image and installed a
virtual machine, updated it with apt update && apt dist-upgrade.
Rebooted, tried firefox again and saw the same problem. Disabled most of
the security and privacy restrictions in the firefox settings, same
problem.

I've been running 14.04 for about a month. This morning was the first
time I saw this happen. When I finally got it to boot into any graphics
mode, it generated and submitted an error report for Xorg, which I could
re-upload here if it would be any help to anyone.

Same issue with 14.04 upgraded from 13.10. The hotcorners consistently
reset on reboot, and it's fixed when turned off and on in Tweak Tool.

the text. I *think* xpdf renders it correctly for about 3 seconds, and
