Installer Freezes When Installing .Deb Package

This happened to me today In Ubuntu GNOME, confirmed it on 2 different
PCs with both 16.04.2 LTS and 17.04. Confirmed across firefox, chrome,
chromium, and nautalis. Picture attached for anyone interested in what
it looks like.

In Ubuntu Gnome 16.04.2 LTS fully updated, typing geddit into the search
bar, right clicking it and hitting add to favorites causes it to appear
twice in the favorites menu, though a duplicate can be removed.
Confirmed on two computers.

Currently having this problem with 16.04. Even if I specify a resolution
for LightDM to use via a display script, unity greeter overrides it and
resets to whatever the preferred resolution is. Running Ubuntu in
VMWare.
