Hi, For rendering with very easy customization of advanced styles, have you looked at the coming qgis 1.7.0? It allows to define styles with rules based on multiple attributes and scale levels, and it includes a fastcgi webserver nd a full javascript web frontend. Some demo for the backend styling:
