Hi All,
I have been working on a protocol that will allow around 125kbits/sec
data to be transferred in a 12.5khz channel.
However, it requires a S:N in the channel of around 35dB.
The potential use that I've thought of is for ATV, with a local 2/70cm
repeater that outputs reasonable power and
1 Does anybody have a feel for how many Hams are using PII and PIII for
keyboard QSOs?
2. SCS has a patent on these modes. What exactly is patented? I know the
hardware must be, and probably a software element like compression can
be patented, but what else?
3. In reference to 2, is it

Hello Bob,
Itried all the Multipsk modes. It is
notone of them. It could be something as a PSK (BPSK or QPSK) mode at 200
or 300 bauds or perhaps a MSK mode.

Hello Sam,
If it interests anyone, then I can publish a specification for
peopleto look through?
I would be interested to read your specifications
and also interested to know what sort of compression system you propose
(Runlength, LZW, DFT...?).
Note for information: in Multipsk, I've
I'll take a crack at this since all my operation is either RTTY
(using a model 28ARS machine) or pactor ARQ using a TNC.
(1)Most are on pactor 1. very few on K2K on 2 or 3.
(2) the way it does what it does.
(3) not that I know of. A few years ago nextel (I think it was) did try
to patent
It would be of no use to the US hams as we are
limited to 5KHz on 2 meters.

Sam, this sounds veery interesting. A good lossless compression
would be Huffman coding, along with the one's that Patrick referenced. I
would be most interested in reading more.

John, wow, a 28ARS. I remember repairing those, and 15s, 19s, 33s when I
worked for RCA Global Comm. A lifetime ago, it seems. I bet I could take
one apart and reassemble it :-)
On your (4), I wasn't aware of a PC implementation of P2
I dont think there will be a PC version for the same reason
there is no PC playing ARQ amtor or even pactor I ARQ.
The PC just cant keep up the timing required.
I have played with a amtor program but at best it was only 46%
of what the TNC was doing. And that was just going across
the room.
At
pse try again, sorry I missed u, Tommi and
Asmo...am very interested in PAX2 and haven't worked Europe
yet..
