I've always believed in pie-in-the-sky wishing. Thus, I have always wondered why someone didn't put together a small 80-20m or 160-10m transceiver with embedded computer w/sound card that would run say MFSK16 and MT63 or some other robust/near error free/high throughput (more than 150 WPM)

We have lots of comparisons of modes, but we don't but them side by side...how about a comparison list like this... mode -|- thruhput in WPM -|- %error free -|- robustness (%error free at what SNR) -|- Bandwidth You might have to qualify this by using certain power levels and receiver

John, A little tongue-in-cheek there perhaps? Needless to say, when you are communicating with someone else, the one thing you want the most is to be able to receive their transmission correctly. At least I would expect most folks do. To me it is the most important characteristic, because if

I agree on three items Rick...as you, I want correctness...I want to know for sure what the individual says. Second is speed. While I can't type very fast, I can pre-type information and transmit it as a file or load a buffer so speed is important. For me I would like at least 200 WPM for

The bandwidth issue to me is significant in that ... if all other things are equal ... I prefer using the narrower BW mode. If PSK31 was using 3 to 4 KHZ instead of 100 Hz, you would likely feel much differently since the bands would be frequently clogged with signals. The only time I would

Ok...if I were using a keyboard-to-keyboard mode...and I was REALLY using the keyboard, a 20-40 WPM mode would be fine if it were 99% error free and worked down below a 0 dB SNR...and a 500 Hz or even 1 KHz bandwidth mode would be Ok. However, if I wanted/needed to send a text ot binary file,

One of the great advantages of FSK RTTY is you can amplify it with anything, linear or not and no harm is done. I believe there may be other digital modes which may be capable of this but I haven't seen anyone come right out and say so. Are there? Bill, W6WRT Hi Bill, Some of the various
