go the Winlink route until I took a closer look at it and realized it's a

Digital network modes
Mike,
With
all due respect, we have been doing messaging on ham radio sinc
Rick, first of all it's not the emergency digital
traffic that people are worried about will swamp the HF bands. It's the
RV'ers and Boat'ers who are too damn cheap to get mobile internet service but
would rather clog the bands with their e-mail. This has only been stopped
because of the
Hi Joel, yes I have been reading it and it does
concern me quite a bit. But, they pass the majority of their traffic over
the Internet and use the radio if only no connection is possible by way of the
Internet. For an example. They use HF for boats and missionary's who
want to send or r
ernet rather than RF solutions to problems.
Between Winlink 2000 and Echolink you have to wonder how long before we lose
more spectrum because they will claim that we don't need it because were using
the Internet instead of RF.

Rick I think you have raised some very good

I can give you one example. The ice storm of 94 here in KY knocked out all
communications except Amateur. Winlink wasn't around then but if it had it
would have been used I'm sure. Packet Radio was used in that storm.

that is why most Amateurs today feel that the ARRL doesn't represent them.
If you need an example the DX'ers have been screaming to fix the 40 meter
band for years yet the board has continuously bypassed that.

I
also believe that the ARRL needs to change to represent what the Amateur
community wants not what the board wants. This would mean that it is time
to change what we have so that the whole membership would vote for the board
members not the way it is done now.

Thanks Joe I couldn't have said it any better than

Yes
It's about time people wake up and realize that the ARRL hasn't represented
the best interest of Amateurs in a long time! That is why so many people
have left being members over the years.
