Many pharmaceutical websites have taken to using video to advocate for
their products (that is, a physician or someone representing a physician
talking about the product). And unfortunately, many of these do NOT
include alternative methods of giving the users the same content. Using

I was talking to Kevin Carey from the RNIB on Saturday about this
subject and he is of the opinion that audio descriptions SHOULD start
automatically, as otherwise non-sighted users may never find the button
to turn it on.
He also likened it to turning on a TV set and then needing to press an
I hate to rain on the interaction design was invented here parade... But I'd
like to remind you all that experience design, user testing, and interaction
design is as old as fire, language, prostitution, and the wheel.
We are refining the experience of using a tool created for use by another
Andrew, I don't think anyone so far has been quite as myopic as
you've accused us all. Of course, the properties of interaction
design have been in play since and including the invention of the
wheel itself, but it wasn't understood as such, nor practiced as it
is today.
I totally agree w/ you
Did you attend Interaction08 and are still talking about it?
Did you miss Interaction08 and wish you could have gone?
Did you see all the speaker recording links and wish you had time to watch
them?
Well, come join us for an evening of revisiting Interaction08! We'll be
watching a speaker video
I really like this quote from the article: Designing is all about
conveying an experience through experience.
How true this is with Interaction Design. I find that I need to
experience everything (or close to it) so I can come up better

I agree with the first bit (the idea that you have to be able to supply

I don't already have an undergraduate degree - but I'd like to learn
more about Interaction Design - trouble is, I already have a job
(which I want to keep) and there don't seem to be any really great
schools around me (I live in Kentucky). Are there any good online
schools or even books/websites

Hi Peter,
In my interpretation, my take is not that only intellectuals can
come up with a concept but rather depends on individual intellect of
each designer.
The various experieces influence your design , but how much and what
you learn from each experience differs from individual to individual
Hi Jeff,
:)).
This sounds pretty good. I like the ACD approach but reading you, I agree
that one should push for the user discovery and try to exhaust the
possibilities.
Thanks for sharing this, your email goes straight to my clipping notebook!
Cheers,

What I would do is have the
My apologies, for the what seems to be the wrong choice of words. To
me, 'intellectuals' are equivocal to those who think about their
designs to the extent that they can conceptualize, rather than latch
onto trends.
Re-reading what I wrote roughly 9 years ago, I can see validity as
