Or you could set up genres called Random Easy Listening, say, and use it
for random, er, easy listening. Using multiple genre tags is the way
forward, I reckon.

I'm having a problem with my squeezebox which seems to play back some
MP3 files too fast. When playing, it skips through the file slightly
too fast. Its not much faster than you would expect, but still makes
the track uncomfortable to listen to. It seems to apply to about 5% of
the tracks I have,
Although the latest version seems to have cleared up the performance
issues with Random Mix it seems to have introduced a bug. I asked SS to
prepare a Random Song mix looking 200 ahead and 5 behind and this is
what I get:

I used the debugging thing and it mentioned a mysql problem.
I thought i would reinstall mysql using adept with 6.10 kubuntu and did
so to move up to 5.0.
I then purged slimserver reinstalled and the web access returned.

I reverted to 6.5.0 (completely removed 6.5.1 first) and had to leave
the computer running all night to scan my library. Finally I
reinstalled LAME (from a different D/L location) in the /server/bin
directory. Unfortunately I still get nothing out of my remote MP3
player -- it connects but

I just did on my SB2 and SB3. No surprise, same behavior on both
systems.

It seems this depends on your file format and even the program you used to
encode them. My songs are almost gapless - I can't hear anything between
two tracks
Can you post some technical info about the tracks in question? Like
bitrate, frequency, encoder version, etc?
Does that differ from tracks that sound OK?

iTunes on a Mac (finally). And after fiddling a bit around with Anton's

only told Windows Vista Firewall to allow Slim.exe. It appears to be an
issue on 6.5.1 and also the nightly builds 6.5.2

Have you tried pressing AND HOLDING the Power button?
Most likely it is a problem with the SB, but I've noticed a change
since going to 6.5.1. Sometimes after my computer is asleep, the SB
remains when the computer wakes up.
Before 6.5.1 pressing the Power button gave a waking SlimServer,
5664 albums with 82933 songs by 5522 artists.
6.5.1 on a multipurpose windows (XP Pro) server machine:
- Athlon XP @2Ghz
- 1GB RAM
- 400GB 2x250GB 160GB HD
Only SoftSqueeze right now, but SB3 in the future :D

I got WME to work with SB with no problems. Once installed it played
everything (Pandora, CDs, DVDs) through Sb but with about a 8 sec
delay.
1. Download Install windows media encoder
2. Choose the Broadcast a Live Event wizard (whatever is playing on
your computer)
3. Hit Ok.

Yes, you need an amplifier to drive your speakers. The SB does not have

The SB3 has no amplifier (beyond the headphones amp). However, some
wireless speakers take the headphone jack and use that. So it may be no
amplifier is necessary.
I echo the sentiments about wireless speakers. They're low-fi. If
that's all you want, great. We run them in one installation. But
(I dont use MusicIp or iTunes)I had a folder named in settings a day or
so ago. Then I had a crash which made my favorites disappear and
apparantly blanked out the folder name as well.

An SB needs to be connected to at least one of (a) an amplifier, (b)
amplified speakers (aka powered or active speakers), or (c) headphones.
Think of the SB like a CD player or tape deck in your stereo setup --

well and noticing much disk activity during queries I looked into how
to increase buffering.
The settings below (to be found in my.cnf) really made SlimServer fly.

Just got a Transporter on Friday (yesterday). I set it up in less than
10 minutes and all was working perfectly (hurray!).
For some unknown reason, it stop working properly. The first symptom
was that the songs would show as play on the web interface and then

innodb_buffer_pool_size=64M. My collection is about half the size of
yours (properly tagged though :P) and I've never had performance issues
under Linux, but Windows is an altogether different story. The tweaks

yes I had a badly formatted piece of code. The version on the web site
(files) fixes it. I will also reWork all of the text to use Arial as
opposed to Arial Narrow. I like Arial Narrow as long text then shows
up, but no big deal. probably post it tomorrow.

Had a quick look. A couple of minor comments: the display can't seem to
handled (utf8) accented characters. Also, it would be nice to be able
to resize the window (on my notebook, the whole thing doesn't fit on
screen unless I auto-hide the windows task bar).

I use my server PC for running slimserver and GBPVR. The latter is a
little flakey at times, and I sometimes have to stop and start the
gbpvr recording service on the host pc. Doing this means VNCing into
the server from another PC.
