Thanks for replies everyone. I will download Squeezecente sometime
today.
No doubt as a silver surfer I will be on here asking questions.
I already have a robertsWM-202 wifi internet radio, but it is not
possible to listen to live 365 or last.fm, so a squeezebox will open
new doors for me.
Just a cautionary anecdote :
You are certainly not alone in a wirelless world :)
I was away at work for two weeks when I fired up my sqeeze things it
borked completely gaah :-/ .
Things also tends to coincide a lot for me.

I have a question re Squeezecentre, do I have to have this on my main
PC, or can I have it on the laptop.

Either, or both. :)
Which do you want to act as your server? It's best to have your server
computer wired to your router.
You can also access your SC on

Hm, still no luck here. SC7.4-24904/Windows (svn)/Perl 5.8.8.824

These all show the same using both SoftSqueeze and SqueezePlay:

is gone in the log, but -no sound-. All streams play in
Still working well for me.
Don't you just love computers?

I wouldn't mind remotely controlling volume control of my amp. I don't
use the variable output on the SB. I have a couple of IR blasters.
Amplifier is Audiolab 8000Q. Whilst I'm at it may do the other room,
which is Lexicon MC-1. How would I do this, I guess use some kind of
plugin? Using the SB
I have an early Slimp3 which has worked fine for years, but which now
seems to be having problems playing AAC files. The tracks appears in
the squeezecenter library, but when they are selected, I get a brief
message saying something like unable to play this file type. I
haven't noticed this
Thanks for the response.
My iTunes library and the Squeeze Center are on the same box (a decent
3 year-old Athlon dual core PC).
I think my disks may be slower than they should be (long story, but
maybe twice as slow). I suppose this could account for the issue, but
the whole things seems
So true. Probably better kill thy neighbour ;-) (Especially those who
run multiple WLANs in -one- apartment! Or start saving money and use

I always used to have a stable wireless network, but over Christmas, one
of the neighbors got something...I don't know what, but several times a
day, it knocks out my wireless network for 5-30 minutes at a time.
Checking NetStumbler, it seems to knock out most other wireless
networks as well.
The IR Blaster plugin uses the IR blaster hardware, but it may not do
what you want.
I don't know every single function of IR Blaster, so I could be wrong,
but it uses one or a string of IR commands when the SB is turned on.
It's meant on startup to turn on your amp, select the appropriate

It plays AAC using transcoding to MP3, and this is done in the server

So, what version of SlimServer/SqueezeCenter do you have? What OS?
Windows uses QuickTime, so you may want to update QuickTime.

IR-Blaster has mappable events for volume up and volume down, and can be

I have adopted the Squeeze system over the past four months and love it.
But my wife is ambivalent: the controller response is a little quirky

quirky and slow to load large music libraries. Non-technical people

Not a neighbour in sight for 1km. Don't even need to bother with
securing the router!
The other advantage is you can play what you like, when you like at the
volume you like.
