to life straight away and I was able to listen to music without any
problems. Must be a lesson there somewhere...

Having looked through other posts, I have managed to get this issue
resolved. All it took
moving files
around/sharing printers etc, this is all pretty straightforward in
OSX.

That said, it's pretty cheap, pretty reliable and does the core job
pretty well. 'Nuff said!
I'm running Leopard on a Mac Mini (PPC) which also houses iTunes and
Squeezecenter.

Sharepoints would only need IMHO to be loaded if you wanted the drive
to be seen by another (separate) machine running SlimServer.

Tried a couple of tacks yesterday and they work fine on the Squeezebox.
I'm playing them from iTunes (latest version) on a Mac Mini running OSX
and SlimServer on the same box just in case that helps.
