Are you running anti-virus software? - Sounds like the playlist is being
scanned...maybe.
The .exe has changed in version 7.x to Squeezecenter.exe from
slimserver.exe - you may need to tweak your anti-virus settings?

I have had no issues using the homeplugs with the SB - apart from when I
tried to put a Homeplug into an RCD-protected socket outside...at which
point I got the choppy sound etc...
Much will depend on the state of your house wiring and that of your
(close) neighbours.

If you are running SC7 on XP you want it to start as a "Service"
(automatically at reboot) not as an application.
Hence the option has disappeared...it should automatically install like
this AFAIK. However, someone else will no doubt advise in more detail...

The Slim.exe holds a lot of data in memory to improve performance. Mine
is 133Mb. Why do you have a problem? - do you have less than 1Gb of
ram? (XP needs at least 1Gb, preferably 2Gb).
IME SC7 is faster than 6.x and more stable. You should try the upgrade.

If you are going to use the ArtistSort tag (I don't as it happens) then
you have to apply it consistently. No DBMS is going to handle valid but
conflicting data.
I couldn't understand why one would put "Various Artists" into an
ArtistSort tag...

hmmm...the tags are at track level - IME you shouldn't have any tags
with "Various Artists" in them...AFAIK that's not how SC/SS works.
I've just checked my several hundred VA albums - not a "Various
Artists" tag to be seen...just the real track artist(s)
deselect "Band/Orchestra"
change to "List Albums by all artists for that album"
clear and rescan
Still looks to me as if the all-important Album Artist tag is not
set...

Daniel, IF SC doesn't shutdown properly (and very quickly!) durng a
normal windows shutdown, you have a setup issue somewhere. Have you
looked at the windows event log (admin tools) recently?

the Naim to prevent transient overloading (although I don't think that
the Naim is prone to that).
Try lowering the volume level to 85-90/100 on the SB.
Failing that, try altering the toe-in of your speakers and try a linear
supply for the SB.

Yes - plug it (the SB) into any computer running SqueezeCenter
(directly or via a switch/router etc)

The OP's problem is accessing a second drive (e:\) on his one
computer...there's no network involved AFAIk and no need to worry about
shares etc.
Shortcuts should fix his problem.

Do you know if these files have DRM in them or not - if they do they
won't play.
If you didn't download them, how did you create them - were they ripped
from CD's?
Are the WMA files in the same directory structure as your non-WMA files
or are they somewhere else?

What operating system are you using and how did you create the
shortcut?
Try this:
1) create a new folder C:\MUSICPATH
2) in the folder C:\MUSICPATH create two shortcuts.
one to E:\MUSIC
one to C:\MUSIC2
3) Set SC to use C:\MUSICPATH
4) delete any shortcuts you have in E:\MUSIC

As an experiment, swap the sb's over and see if the sleeping moves or
not - if not then its a wi-fi issue, if yes then...dunno

ok then its easy - just create shortcuts to your music directories
(networked or local) and put he shortcuts together, on their own in a
directory, Then set Slimserver to use the directory wiith the shortcuts
in it as the music folder...
