Softsqueeze will use more resources than WinAmp, but it should not be
that much more. Is the CPU usage high as soon as Softsqueeze connects,
or only when playing music? I have had another couple of reports of a
similar sounding problem.

they happen. Does the visualizer still work when the audio has stopped?
If the visualizer stops then this indicates a problem with the mp3
