Thats done it - but now i have to see what i can do about orrendous
rebuffering even on fat mp3s (256) - any settings i can set to
temporarily squeeze it down further - its only for hotel room use

Ok I understand - maybe I just didnt happen to ever play one of the old
AAC files and its never worked! I guess the probolem now is to find a
version of Quicktime that will happily install in Windows Home Server
(not the latest ones) does anybody know?

worked fine up to 7.1 with no special

Is there any way around this i.e. retain limiting for audio files in

downstairs player. But now alien bbc is not
streaming to that player - it works elsewhere but somehow the bandwidth
limiting (i assume) is confusing the stream send to the downstairs
player. Any ideas?

Its telling me i dont have lame installed (though alien bbc works fine)
so i downloaded the dll and put it in windows/system and restarted the
whole box but it still tells me i dont appear to have lame installed.
Is there any way to "tell"it
tell squeezecentre to
transcode to mp3 just for that machine? I can't see how to do it. If
anybody can do it can you give me step by step instructions!

I think you are probably right and i guess slim can't know date ripped -
or can it - is this a standard tag? It'd be useful for getting at
recently acquire tracks as opposed to those that happen to have been
added most recently.

"new music" usually means - "most recently copied over" rather
than "most recently ripped". Its a feature Ive seen on some upnp
servers but I can see if it exists on Slimserver

etter in my opinion is to use the excellent jriver media centre with
the mc2slim plugin (hunt the forums for a link) this lets jriver stream
to a squeezebox and works well.

seems to me the Pepperpad 3
is designed to live in the lounge, has IR and therefore makes the
better uber remote.

Touch still gives me a slight scroll. Its because Peppers browser
retains the url box and stuff even in "full screen" mode.
just realised was not being clear the skin is TOO DEEP by a few pixels
not too short

I love media centre too. Whilst you can manage you music happily, and
rip your music with it there is no way to play the squeezebox directly.

They work with default and fishbone to name two i have tried (on 6.5) -

them in the "old" location. In that case a rescan from slimserver (from
scratch) would be my advice.

Well the obvious non open source solution is itunes which is especially
good at smart playlists and with which slimserver works exceptionally
well.

same thing here - download from about two nghts ago - fixed a lot of
stuff but now double discs are all disc 2 - though no missing tracks
and the correct sequence is maintained
