No need to tinker the .spk file. If you feel comfortable copying around
a few files, you could easily take the 7.7.4 (or 7.8 fwiw) tarball, and
copy over the Slim folder with its sub-folders.

Your guesswork as right, it's not possible.
The Radio doesn't expose any control over the LineIn input to the server
so you also can't control it.
Where did you get that? Even the checkbox in the main menu is handled in
the server (see the LineIn plugin)
I would like to be able to switch my SB Radio to Line-in via the CLI
interface. Is this possible? I can't find it documented so I'm guessing
no.

it only prevent it from getting larger?
It doesn't shrink it, but it would re-use the now (internally) freed
space. If your file is large, then it might be worth deleting it while LMS
is shut down.

The "current playlist" (aka. queue) is limited to 500 items by default.
This value can be changed in Settings/Advanced/Performance.

Had the same problem. Manually tuned using the ogg URL and saved it in
playlists. And it plays. 160 Kbps as well. The urls are on absolutes web
site
We rolled out a new list of Absolute URLs a few days ago. The "app" should
be functional again.

I think the "magic" behind the posting coming and going again was the
forum software's behaviour with links in first time postings: when the OT
modified one of the URLs, the posting was sent for moderation again..
