-Every single file has a defined ARTISTSORT, ALBUMSORT, and ALBUMARTIST
tag, along with the expected standard title, artist, track, disc, etc.
No compilation tags exist
I don't understand - you have album artists and no compilations, but you talk
about compilation albums not being displayed
Some other questions that will help identify your problem:
1. What version of SqueezeCenter are you using?
2. Have you done a full rescan after playing with the SC library setting
options?
3. What type of file tags have you stored in your FLAC files? I'd recommend
that you try openening some
Also, browse into the album in the WebUI, and look at all of the information
that it lists on the screen. Also look at a specific song for song information.
Check that it really does say Album Artist: U2, for example.

This may be a bit OT, but from reading this thread it seems that most
people are concerned with libraries of modern music where ALBUM, ARTIST
and ALBUM_ARTIST are the parameters for sorting.
Perhaps unlike you guys, I also have a significant classical library.

If it is true that 1 instance of an ARTISTSORT tag can set the value

-Library has 1 soundtrack album with multiple artists, ARTISTSORT tag

Well that would be severely mistagged then. GENRE would be a much

Probably true.. Classical tagging is a black art.

It is just frustrating because I have other existing setups that provide

I realize it should be simple - that's why it bugs me.
Picking 2 of the U2 albums in question - indeed, every single track has
the exact same ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST, and ARTISTSORT : U2. Yet they do
not appear sorted in the U's.
Was there not an issue a while
I'd file a bug then. This should work, and I'd go so far as to say this
DOES work for almost everyone, so the good news is that it's probably
something very very simple that's not going to come out until someone
asks the right question. You're likely going to need to provide some
scanner logs

Was there not an issue a while back that if the first time the scanner
encountered an artist it used that artistsort for all subsequesnt tags
for that artist?
So for example, I couldn't figure out why Fleetwood Mac were appearing
under 'B' in my artists list.
FWIW I have compilations with ARTISTSORT tags defined for the artists,
and I have other non-compilation albums by the same artist, and do not
see these issues. I think it's a red herring.
It may matter of two ARTISTSORT tags for the same ARTIST don't match,
perhaps.

another question i had reading this, is does the controller use
artistsort tags?
i know on the controller itself you can pick albums sort method, but i
don't have any sort tags, so i don't know if it uses them or is
supposed to.
one thing i've noticed is that settings for SC, SBs, and SBCs are
20 matches
