is there a way to make the ADD button add the selection to the top of
the current playlist?

press-and-hold ADD puts the item into the playlist after the current
playing track.

That's exactly what I would have expected it to do so I'm glad you've

Hang on - I just noticed in your original post you said ADD, whilst in
the recent followup you quoted the manual talking about PLAY. They are
different. ADD works as I described, PLAY has a switch to make it take
the whole album if you want to - look in Server Settings/Behavior/Play

I understand the difference between PLAY and ADD, and
with your suggested server setting the Squeezebox works
as I think it should.
I think the trouble I got into was using PLAY to play (and
add to Now Playing) the first song, but because I hit PLAY
