During some time now, I have been trying to locate on the internet
information on mods for the R4C, in particular for the product detector,
the
100 feet for a long-wire is not long compared to the wavelength
at 60[kHz], which is appr. 5000[m] or appr. 16000 feet. So,
the length of the antenna is appr. 1/160th of the wavelength -
an indication, that it will not develop much voltage at this

Quite possibly either alignment or merely S-Meter adjustment.
Quick check... If you turn RF Gain control full CCW, the S-Meter should
read full

I assume you have performed an alignment per the
manual. If you have, you might try repeating it just to be certain.
The noise blanker will affect gain (if well aligned, it may actually increase
the gain a bit - if not, try taking it out of line). If you still have the
problem:
