[Drakelist] adjusting an s meter

I want to adjust my s meter in my R4C its NOT accurate. if I read the book right, its simply a matter of disconnecting the antenna and putting the meter on s1. ( right now its all the way to the left. ) I just want to be sure, thats all there is to this. it does work, its just not right.

is it Possible,... that the fan could have caused this ? it sits in a place where I really cant see inside it very well, and I unplugged it before I could get a chance to see what was really going on, I cant find any Visual evidence of anything wrong, at this point I am thinking of putting

HI all, I need some advice, my l4b is sick, I was sitting here and it started smelling like it was burning so I unplugged it. I can see NOTHING wrong with a visual inspection, how can I test the TUBES with a volt meter ? I am curious to see if I have one shorted out. Thanks in advance,
