I've used the patch of alan cox on kernel 2.4.22 and selected the S3
driver module from menuconfig: I've tried both to build it inside the
kernel and to create it as a module, however, glxinfo says I've direct
rendering disabled, even if lsmod displays the module "savage" as loaded.
I use
the lack of direct rendering)...
Is there any additional info I should include to make this feedback of
any help for you?

I've just subscribed this malinglist, and I'd like to know if there's
someone working on a S3 Savage DRI driver.
If not, I'd like to try write it myself, even if I have never done
anything like that before, but I think I can learn: I know C basics at a
decent level.
