documents the bestway to do mass importing? We have a lot of documents
Basically, the number of items which are full-text searchable - it
doesn't matter if the original content is pdf, doc, etc. This is why
I was going for the items with that .txt file which is created by
media filter. We may have some older pdfs which are not OCR'd, and
would then not have the .txt
A couple ideas: Can you copy-and-paste what's in your dublin_core.xml and
contents file, and post them here? Also, a quickie map of your directory
structure, similar to what Dorothea has given as an example?
Have you tried running the batch import with the "--test" flag set? Put it

wouldn't work because our manually submitted items have a license.txt
bitstream.

So if the elements of the item are really straight under /dspace/run,

even though individuals have been given permission to submit to the
collection, the submit button does not show up. The administrators may
submit - but no one else can. - and it is happening in only one collection.

could you give some more details (stack trace).
Most probably you did not set up your smtp server correctly. Thus on
trying to send the registration email the register process fails.
Check the section "Email Setting" in your dspace.cfg, especiially:
