Then I think you have lost the idea of Field Day. Very simply, Field Day should be renamed to Contest Day. It is mostly about making contacts and yes showing off a wee bit to officials but EL, IRLP and repeaters serve well in their formats. But when the repeaters go down and the internet is disr

The issue that I primarily address when I mention the divergence is how Field Day leaves out VHF/UHF repeaters and associated communication paths. For many ARES organizations, VHF/UHF is the primary means of Emergency Communications. Including repeaters, D-STAR, IRLP, Echolink and other methods

D-Star does not need a repeater You can use simplex and score as a digital mode... You need to consider D-Star as a digital mode not D-Star mode. Afterall it is digital. So is Packet, so is PSK, amtor, rtyy etc... Not any mention that you can't use it that way. [ED - There is the D-STAR dem

Ed, Of the FD rules 7.3.7 Satellite QSOs, 100 bonus points. On the other packet, APRS, etc in 7.1.3 Digital QSOs count as 2 points (double phone and same as CW). Since D-Star digital then think it would count. Repeaters, except Satellite, are not allowed. Also only one VHF/UHF station allowed

Ed, I do not believe FD has been diverted from “developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio". I feel it still gives good practice of setting up an emergency station, testing that station and

I'm looking at the ARRL Field Day 2008 rules (http://www.arrl.org/contests/forms/fd-2008-rules.pdf) and I don't see any specific bonus points for special mode except for satellite. There is an educational bonus, which a seminar on D-STAR would possibly satisfy. The only thing that tends to disq

If at a analog FD and one makes a D-Star contact does this count for one of the 100 point bonuses like digital packet or special mode? 73,ron, n9ee/r >From: "Woodrick, Ed" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Date: 2008/06/16 Mon PM 10:41:08 EDT >To: "dstar_digital@yahoogroups.com" >Subject: [dstar_digital]
