He DID upgrade to Extra Class in time. At 12 years of age, it took some time for him to learn all he needed to know to pass the Advanced and Extra Class Exams. Perhaps I should have written 'not (then)' instead of not (yet). Sorry for the confusion. Tom N4KG In a message dated 8/19/03

I don't know. It sort of reminds me of the "I want it all now" mentality that is rather prevalent today. I have seen some fairly young extra class licenses --- some much younger than 12 years old. There was a time when you had to be licensed for one year before you could become a class A

You are RIGHT ON Ward ! Personally, I think Incentive Licensing was a disservice to Amateur Radio. I attained FULL operating privileges at age 12 when I passed my General Class Amateur Radio Exam and I think I turned out OK. One of my (now famous) protege's was handicapped by not (yet) being
