I just purchased the K1-4, serial #01951. Checking the capacitors for the
filter board I have a problem identifying C9 marked with 1.
I do have a small bright blue capacitor with .10 inch lead spacing with 1A
marked on one side, and it sure looks like 2.7C on the other side. Should
this be

My K2/100 has stopped talking to my computer.
I have tried 2 computers thinking it was the serial port but no
I redid the cable and still nothing
Finally I changed the amp lid with the QRP lid and it all works fine.
I have a KAT 100 tuner
Mark,
Other than a bad solder connection on the KPA100 board, the following checks
(in order of probability)should reveal the problem:
1) Broken inductor RFC6, 7, or 8; 2) negative voltage supply to pin 8 of U4
(should be -5 to -25); 3) bad U4 chip.
Remember that the most likely failure is a
Then you have different serial ports (KIO's), the one in your QRP lid and
the one in the KPA100. Sounds like the RS232 tranceiver in the KPA100
failed. The RS232 is not used to talk to the KAT100 that is done with
auxbus functions that are on the same cable but different pins. That's
The KAT100 does not use the Serial Port to talk to the K2 it uses the
AuxBus. When you assembled it and put the cables together they were some
instructions that told you to be careful as to not plug the cable that is
the serial into the KAT100 or the KAT100 cable to a serial port as you
Ken,
Keep looking -- it might be stuck to one of the hardware parts or hiding
somewhere else.
One cannot rely on body colors for capacitor identification. The value
markings are the significant identifiers.
The capacitor marked '2.7' or '2p7' or '2r7' would have a value of 2.7 pf,

Check the sidetone. If it is gone also then the sidetone source is set wrong.
The sidetone and data out are selected with this menu function and if they are
set wrong neither will work. Go into the menu and select sidetone level adjust.
Then tap the display button until U8-4 is displayed.
I would like to wish to the Elecraft family, builders and users, a

Now for the stupid question...
What do you have programmed in the message memories of your K2? I've been
playing around with different schemes in my K2 and my stand-alone keyers and
I'm still not quite sure I have the best solution yet.

You may want to check the soldering of all associated components - look on
the K2 Control Board schematic lower left corner to identify the components
in question.
Actually the 3.78 volts may be close enough. The real test is when you
finish the K2 and if you do the advanced AGC

No. The plot continues to thicken with the station apparently frequency
hopping sending out the same 5-second message on (at least) in a rotating
sequence on 3700
On my K2, one message calls CQ, another contains my name qth, another
contains the rig info, and another message contains the customary tu es
sign off. Sometimes when I get real lazy, I seldom have to send much with
my keyer to complete a qso.

Hello and Merry Christmas to All,
I would like to thank all those QRP'ers that ordered a QRP Contest Calendar.
This year was crazy but it did go very smooth in sending out the calendars.
If you did not order a calendar, you can still do so. Check out
