Hi to all guys of like to experiment in their K2, I was inspired by
un-mod kit that was posted on the reflector a few weeks ago
I did mine. So when I want to remove a module to isolate a problem,
or simply to make more space to work in the K2 when trying some
experimentation, simply rep

See the HFTA TOA analysis of

W3CRA (pre-war W8CRA) had legendary

why. The blue line shows 12-15 dB at
low angles ove

The L network tuner has one less lossy reactive component, (coil or cap).
It also has an unambiguous tune up for optimum power transfer. Ie, only one
setting of the variable components gives the lowest loss transfer of power.
In a Tee tuner, there are three adjustable parts, and two settings fo
Another answer for Darrell, is that a balun is designed to see equal antenna
halves either side of it. (on its balanced side).
There is no advantage to using one on an end fed dipole.
If you were to feed with coax, to an end fed dipole, and that coax is
quarter wave long, you would transform t
You might email AA7QU for more details of his numerous operations in such

I use version 11 with little difficulty.
Selecting Preferences->Analysis Controls->Manual Controls will bring
up the dialog that most resembles that in the N0SS write up.
Use Scope 1, 128msec averaging and 2048 FFT points (Pentium 4) and
you'll see the same results.

Vic,
I have noticed the effect in the San Jacinto Mtns east of here. I was at
around 8000'. I layed out my end-fed wire as a sloper with the low end
pointing east on relatively flat terrain at the campground. I later moved it
so that it sloped from the edge of a drop off down to a scrubby tree on a
I operated FOBB 2005 with my K1 in 100F (38C) heat in the shade. At one
point, without really realizing it, the K1 was in direct sunlight filtering
through the trees. The top of the case was very uncomfortable to touch.
Obviously, I didn't do any objective testing to see how that affected drift.

Thanks to Tom N0SS and Lyle KK7P for pointing out the blindingly obvious
mistake on my part! I have obviously changed the settings but I can't
remember it at all! I must have done it though ;-)
I had the centre set outside the tone and so I could hear nothing.
Actually it could be seen quite eas
I just used a portable inverted vee fed with 300 ohm ladder line and the
elecraft 4:1 balun during our camping trip up in the hills of northwest NJ.
The K2 heard like a hawk. I had it up about 30 feet and the ends were maybe
8-10 feet off the ground. 1st QSO I snagged Switzerland on 40 meters runni
Hello Ian!
I am trying to get back into CW and the filters are really odd. If I
bypass the DSP, everything works as I would expect. I can zero beat
using the spot button and the filters are fine. If I have the DSP in, I
cannot get the CW note down to the spot frequency and if I alter from

I would like to correspond with anyone who has tried portable QRP
operation from a high location, using a low horizontal antenna at the
edge of a sharp dropoff.
In the Moxon antenna book (chapter 10), he says that a simple dipole or
inverted vee at a low height in such a location can show exce
Hi all,
I have a strange problem that is driving me crazy!

A little while back I mentioned on this list that I felt that I was
having some frequency
drift issues with my K1 since I had changed the VFO tuning range from

narrow. I decided today that it was time to see if I could do something
about it,
but I figured that I needed to quant
Hello Piet,
I've got version 5V17 which works fine for this purpose!

I am looking for the good old version 7.x of Spectrogram to re-align my

the Spectrogram website. Does someone still have the v7.x release of
Spectrogrm and would you be willing to mail this to me.
Thanks,
