Yes it's really icky stuff! I kind of parallel it with the times I need
to make a hole in some plastic and am too lazy to get out the drill, I
just heat up the soldering iron and melt it, works great but it does
make the tip icky. Alex.

Hi
If you happen to own a Hakko 808 desoldering gun then you can insert the
toroid wire into the nozzle up to the core on the toroid. Then feed a little
solder and pull the trigger. The enamel will be stripped off and the wire
cleaned and tined all at the same time by the rush of air over the
Al,
When I saw a prototype at Dayton last year, the amp was in a matte black
(anodized?) cabinet, with silk screened front panel. Was this the final
color? Only a formal announcement will tell.
Wayne had it set up and driven from a K2/100. CW was flowing from the K2's
memory through the amp
Seeing as how the neighbours were Hams they were probably drooling just like

According to information released by designer Wayne Burdick, N6KR, the
newest firmware revision 1.02 for the Elecraft KX1 HF transceiver is already
included in kits with serial numbers 1373 or higher. This revision will be
included for free of charge with the soon-to-be-released KXB3080 module
N6VX has my KX1 and has worked 3Y0X on 20. When he said he wanted to
try the same on 30,
I informed him my KX1 did not cover 30. His reply - I've been working
DX on 30.
Seems he just enabled B30 menu option to see if it would work. Output
was 3 watts, same as 40 20.
The receiver was not as
When I built my K2 (#337) I used a wrist strap electrostatic ground connected
to my station ground which went a short distance out the window and to a ground
rod. Now, in a different house, my station is on the second floor and I have
no easy access to a ground. I guess I should have my K2
I am installing the heat since on my basic K2 #5366. The instructions say
to remove all masking tape except that covering the transverter and receive
antenna holes (I know I am going to add the separate receive later).
However there is no masking tape over these holes.
There is however a

Hi Folks,
#3641 with KBT2 battery option is still for sale. New price $475.00 U.S.
including shipping to U.S. or Canada.
Paypal is preferred.
Some details:
I have checked the power out on all bands and it's fine. There is a
small scratch on the top cover. I find the audio somewhat low for
To adequately ground for electrostatic charges does not require a
connection to physical earth at all.
In fact whether to use a strap at all depends on your local temperature and
humidity at the work station. Dry cold winter weather is more risk than a
wet spring unless you have a cold air
I just finished building my K2. I bought the rework eliminator kit linked at
the bottom of the elecraft home page when I bought my kit.

My SN1184 has decided to not transmit on 21MHZ. It receives OK, but when
placed into tune the power drops to 0.1w. I thought I might have a bad
solder joint in the output filter but reflowed the joints and the problem
remains. The other 3 bands, 7,10 14 transmit OK with power to spare.

Well folks, SN 5366 passed all alignment tests and it is on the air QRP. It
took exactly ten days to build but I took it slow and made sure all was
well. I still have one issue that I am hot after, the LED display doesn't
work on the 8th digit but I am sure I know how to fix it. All
I am about at my wits end on this problem. I cant
seem to establish communications with my KIO2. Ive
tried using different COM ports, and Ive even
replaced the MAX1406 IC on the board, but nothing is
working. I have measured all of the inductors on the
KIO2 and they are o.k. When I checked
Both Paul and Sandy pointed out that the real issue is the potential
difference between you, your tools and the ESD-sensitive components, so a
completely floating system in which everything on the work area is at the
same potential is perfectly safe for the components involved even if no
ground is

If i had only known that Eccostrip and Stripvar were going to become
unavailable, I would have stocked up years ago (thanks, OHSA/EPA).
The alternatives certainly do not beat just brushing a thick liquid
on the end of the wire and wiping it and the enamel off a few minutes
later.
73,
Thanks to everyone. I picked up a mat today and plugged it, with the wrist
band also connected to it, into the AC ground. Seems to be working fine.

Exactly.
