Hello all,
I have finally gotten to the final stretch of construction and have hit another
snag. I had gotten the power out on all bands correct and was starting to align
the filters when the VFO went out. I reworked the solder joints looking suspect
on all 3 boards with no good results. I did
Dan,
It sounds like your PLL Reference oscillator quit working - so ---
Tackle Q19 first. Check the resistance from the source to ground -
should be close to 270 ohms. If not, check the soldering on R20 and
both the lead tinning and soldering of RFC14.
Once Q19 is OK, then you can go on to

It was reported in the Winlink Yahoo Groups and other sources. It's been back

At a local hamfest Saturday, one of the field testers had the P3 on display. I
was very impressed with it, in fact the photos don't do it justice. Colors are
very bright and signals are shown in great detail. I think it will be a real
winner --- hopefully they will be shipping the product
The importance of a control for display brightness on the P3 is an important
feature that could easily be overlooked.
Does it have one?

Hi All,
should I be worried about taking my K2 where I would take my 857 0r 817?
I really want to but I am more protective of it, its knobs and BNC
connectors
How do they hold up to adventuring?

Thanks to Wayne and Eric for letting me post this here !!
Good Morning Gang,
I have recently come into possession of several hundred 5ah gel
cells. So, as a summer job for my son, these are being charged, load
tested, and offered for sale here on the List. Amazon et al want
about $12
Neil,
The K2 is actually quite sturdy. The enclosure is difficult to damage
when all the screws are in place, and the electronics are certainly not
physically fragile short of something that would damage the board.
You are correct that the most vulnerable items are the BNC connector(s)
and
Yes, display brightness is variable.
Great! Leave it to Elecraft to come up with a sensible design...

Yes, display brightness is variable.
Tap Menu, rotate the knob to set display brightness and tap the knob.
Rotate the knob to the desired brightness, tap the knob.
You may also assign one of the FN buttons to the menu selection if you tend
to change brightness frequently.

Sounds good. Yes the mouse with LP-Pan has me spoiled. My mouse is a
wireless Logitech with the HyperScroll feature which basically turns the
scroll wheel into a flywheel tuning knob. Just a quick flick and it coast
across the band! P3 really needs one.

Which of the options/upgrades should be installed for the P3 to function at
optimum capability?
Is it the KIO3 bd and what is the effect of trying to use the non-upgraded
board?
Was this the bd that can be ordered on swapout or should I send in mine to be
upgraded? How long does it take?
You may wish to install the IF Output Gain modification,
http://www.elecraft.com/K3/mods/IF_Output_Buffer_Gain_Mod_Rev_A.pdf. This
mod has already been installed if your rig was built after about September
2009.
It isn't essential, but you'll probably want to do this if you have a P3.

Dick,
Good idea, but I'm not sure it is necessary. I used a prototype P3 in WPX
CW in May at P49Y with my K3, serial 0076, which does not have the mod. Now
this was in a contest, and I wasn't particularly looking for the weakest
signals, but it did seem to interface fine with the older K3,
Yes. Brightness is fully adjustable.
It also easily tunes signals with its point and click tuning knob.
Actually faster than a mouse for me.

I have used the K3 with a lot of sound card programs and logging
programs but today I ran into a problem using Fldigi.
In using the Fldigi(digital sound card software) I noticed something

I would sure like to see a video of how that point and click knob is faster

Wouldn't the ability to have the rig QSY just staring at the position on

You shouldn't even have to go THAT far. The radio should be capable of fully
autonomous mode ... think of it as a Roomba sweeping up contacts for the
contest instead of just .. ahhh ... dirt. Bouncing off of and changing
direction at band edges, seeking multipliers, ignoring stations
