Check the schematic. You will find that one end of RB is connected to
both RC and RD, and further connected to pins 2 and 3.
The troublesome one is usually RE which is close to one end of RC -
those two points should not connect together.

simple firmware mod to fix it. KEY_OUT is derived from 7R, which switches all
sorts of stuff between RX and TX mode. If 7R were disabled in PTT RX mode,

Thanks to all for your replies about the ERR 12V problem.
It seems that is well known by Elecraft. It's related to the wear/corrosion
of the connectors on the KPAIO3, which is a little board used to connect the
KPA3 to the K3 motherboard.
It seems that early K3's used some "tinned" connectors and
Check the crimp connections on the spade connections that slip onto
the circuit breaker inside the unit. When I went to check mine the
other day a simple tug on the wire pulled the wire right out of the
connector. Bought some new ones crimped them on well and I've never
had an issue since.

change-over to provide a top-loaded vertical. I'm often bothered by
connecting the antenna feeder into a 1:1 balun and then to the tuner. I've
