I know it's premature and I need to read the installation and owner's manual
but
was skimming through them. I just got my K3/100 kit and will build it in a

days. How do you make multiple connections to the RS232/ACC? I have a

Prior to sending k3 to elecraft for updating I worked Pactor with no problems.
Multi connector of Pactor Modem .to RS232 on back of k3
RCA Ptt of Modem..to PTT IN on back of k3
Audio of Pactor Modem...to line in (stereo) on back of K3
Change the audio lead to Line Out on the K3.
That *should* fix the issue.

Hello,
well, I spend all the night trying to fix this problem without luck.
What I did was to connect the SO2RXlat when the K3 was ON and connected to
the computer with the RS232 cable.
After that I have this ERR DSE, when I connect N1MM to control the radio and

GM: You will need one or more Y cables. They are available from a
number of suppliers but you need to ensure that all 15 wires are connected

Anndel: Sorry I didn't read your message close enough - my comments only
apply to the ACC connector. The RS232 connector is a different situation
and I don't believe the Y approach will work.

Hi, Group,
I have a K2 with the mic configured for Kenwood. I've never used a
microphone with this radio before as I tend to do CW. However, I would
like a cheap, basic hand mic that would work for the occasional SSB
rag chew or field op. Something really basic.
Anyone have a suggestion that's
I use MacLoggerDX for my casual operating. The support is superb. I've tried
RumLog and found it to work well. I particularly like the K3 control panel.
However, for contesting I've found that Skookum Logger

Hello Thomas,
Any 8 pin Kenwood hand mic will do. In fact, K2 is very accommodating for most
of the microphones. I once used an Icom HM36. It also worked well. I
eventually picked up a Azden dynamic hand mic at US$20 and settled with it.
This Azden hand mic is now working with my K3.
All,
Trying to get my K2/100/KAT-100 operation with N1MM.
Bought the Elecraft USB-Serial adapter. Installed the
driver from the FTDI web site. Seems to be operational.
Connected the cable to the computer (device found, etc).
Connected the other end to the radio/antenna tuner serial
All you need is the DB-9 serial Y connectors described by SteppIR and
Palstar.
For your SteppIR, see http://www.steppir.com/files/Y%20-%20Cable.pdf and

Take a look at what Jim, W0EB, and others do. They bring their own
Elecraft units to the hamfest and setup a table. Elecraft provides them
with sales fliers and a banner (I think that's right) upon request.
Beyond that I don't know if there are any special perks offered by

I also sometimes use Skookum Logger for CW contests but find RUMLog better for
Digital contests.
The ESM mode for RTTY contests is magic!
BTW, Tom has been updating the program and his contest maker app is pretty
slick (especially if you sucker him in to helping you..) for setting up unknown
I can't say enough good things about RUMLog/RUMped. Tom (DL2RUM) is very
active in supporting his software. He has added great support for Fldigi
into RUMLog, such as auto-import of logs from Fldigi and tracking of
frequency/mode from Fldigi. This was done literally in a few day's of work

Did you check the K3's SYNC DATA function described in the AMTOR/PACTOR
section of the manual?
The K3’s SYNC DATA feature can be used to
minimize T-R delays (it forces the same crystal
filter to be used for both receive and transmit).
Locate CONFIG:SYNC DT. Assign it to a

The K2 cables are not standard RS-232 cables. They only have pins 2,3,
and 5 connected. This is documented in the manuals, you should review
the manuals carefully to make sure you have constructed the cables
correctly.

I meant to say, they only have 2,3, and 5 connected at the *computer*
end.

Maybe you have the wrong antenna selected? Either select the other
antenna, or move the load to the other antenna connector.

Gene,
An INFO 080 message is caused by a problem on the AUXBUS signal, so pay
particular attention to the DB-9 connector pin 6 in the cable. It might
be a good idea to open the backshells to see if there is a wire whisker
from pin 6 to any other pin, or a broken wire on pin 6.

Dave,
Test the coax with your dummy load attached to the far end - remove the
PL-259 from the K3 and measure the resistance between the center
conductor and the shell - if it reads something vastly different than 50
ohms, replace the coax.
OTOH, if you find the resistance is 50 ohms, make

My K2 bargraph display (both dot bar) disappears when I transmit. I

Any suggestion of a likely cause please.

In addition to the other comments, there's a PA Jumper block that must be in
place on the RF board near the large opening in the back panel (see Fig 11
in most versions of the Assembly Manual). That jumper completes the RF path
for K3's that do not have the KPA100 amplifier option installed.

Robert,
Those conditions are often an indicator of damaged diodes in the KPA100
wattmeter (D16 and D17).
To make further checks, add an external wattmeter between the KPA100 and
the dummy load.
Set the requested power for 20 watts, then in CW mode, tap the key.
What is the power output? If it
