I have heard WQ3W doing qso's on 17 20meters from an Airbus A330 while in
flight many times,
and he gave my K2 a 59+ on the one occasion I called himhe usually has a

Boy, this is all news to me. As a career airline mechanic, since retired, I'm
unaware of any HF radio equipment on board that is capable of operating on the
ham bands. The only HF carried on our airplanes was Automatic Direction
Finding and that was receive only and emergency only. Some

HF is used for long over water flights when you are out of range of

Hi,
It is with joy that I can announce K3 # 7218 was born today at 1500hrs .
Initial indications of health were good until 5w calibration test was failed.
Those good doctors at Elecraft have been informed and I await their prognosis.
I will update you on its progress IDC.

Excellent news, and exactly the reason for the procedure (JT modes,
WSPR, etc.).
It takes time to execute the procedure, but the results are definitely
worth it. I first found the problem running WSPR, when every station
decoded drifted the same span +/- 1 Hz. There was about 8-10 Hz drift

Agreed, and the whole topic is academic anyway, since the KX3 can't even
receive aircraft band, let alone transmit on it.
I use to run phone patches (remember those?!) in the 70's for a commercial
airline pilot who was a ham. He would contact me when he left San Francisco
for his regular run from SF to Hawaii to LA and talked to his wife on a
number of occasions. I think he was flying for Braniff.

I didn't see the chipset listed. You want something with the FTDI set.

I'm curious... how should that condition be resolved? Should the system
randomly
choose one or the other station to transmit, or ...??? If so, then it will
probably need a microprocessor and it will no longer be a 'simple' circuit.

Al,
It is all in the timing. The first K3 to transmit will get priority.
If both try to transmit at exactly the same time (think milliseconds),
then and only then will both be locked out.

Don,
I do not think so. Inhibit signal does not disable PTT. Therefore when the
first station starts to TX and then the second station presses PTT the first
station TX would get disabled by Inh right in the middle of the
transmission.
I think it would be easily resolved if K3 firmware is

Take a look at ACOM 2S1. This little device is intended to allow two
transceivers to share one antenna (amplifier). Its logic locks out them by
