12 (and 10) meters are not available from Elecraft. I have heard of a
couple builders who attempted a 10 meter K1 mod, but I don't know the
details nor the results.
One difficult part is obtaining the crystal required - it must be a
fundamental mode crystal and must be 8 MHz above the low

We used several KPA-500 amplifiers on the Swains Island NH8S DXpedition and

Two feet high.. is way too close to the ground.
However, if the beam is 10 foot high.. or maybe 15... that would be so much
better and more accurate..
Expect some change when it gets top of tower.. but at 15 ft.. adjustments can

What I have done is clamp it to my wooden deck railings on a 8 foot mast,
the higher your deck is the better.
That worked pretty well for me, little change once it was up in position.

I used a 12 foot tall four leg scissor ladder. Close but no cigars. The lower
bands will probably show the higher SWR, and a lower shift in freq response.
As long as the pass band is close it will probably be OK.

The lower the frequency the harder it is and I found standing the antenna up
on end didn't work well either.
What I do especially at the lower bands is put the antenna up in the air
around 10 to 12 feet and adjust it to just below the bottom of the band.

I just have finished with the build of my K2 CW/SSB base 10W vesion.
Before I will continue with the build-in my KPA100 unit I will do a whole K2
transmitter final allignement.
I already have done a receiver allignement so the band coils should be quit in
the naber for maximum po
