The K9W Wake Island Dxpedition is back on track and should be on the air this
weekend (Nov 3) if all goes to schedule.
(See announcement below and http://wake2013.org/index.html )
They are running K3s and KPA500's, so they should both sound great and have
sensitive ears!

Is there any way to enable an Are you sure? or similar prompt when
overwriting a freq/mode with VM?
Please don't institute such a silly thing on MY K3!!!
I make that mistake occasionally myself, but give myself a dope slap,
re-program the button and promise to pay more attention in the future.
Got Wake confirmed when W0CN was out there in 2005. This time, I'm going to
use my KX3 try for the lowest frequency I can hear them on. Ought to be fun
trying to bust the horrendous pileups that are sure to occur with the KX3 on
battery power.

I tried the cal procedure on pg 49 of the manual. I have no WMTR LP in the

Keith,
Shouldn't be a problem for you. I used to run phone patches from there back
in 67-68 into Oregon mostly. Was KW6GB at the time. Heathkit SB300/400 at
180W to a 3el beam. Try it at 0100Z and later, 10, 15, or 20M depending
where they will be on freq. From CA, not a problem. Check out
I am looking forward to sitting in the hot seat and driving the excellent K3
and KP500.
I am taking one of the K3s home after the event. It will be my second.

Good luck to the expedition and those that chase after it.
Personally, I never seem to do well in pileups. Maybe lack of erp on my
part (on 23cm I do better, but I have more erp on that band) or a dislike of
the sort of behaviour that seems to grip some people when a really rare DX

Roger,
The quick answer is it does not - however ---
The default wattmeter calibrations are pretty close to optimum.
Yes, if the wattmeter calibration is done before running the TX gain
calibration, the results will be better - assuming your external
wattmeter is accurate.

Your question assumes that we know how you operate and what you want out
of your station. There is no way we can know this. Think about how you
operate and what you could do with a second receiver and then decide if
you need or want one.
If you don't know why you might need or want a sub
Hi Alan,
The sub receiver has a few primary uses:
- Monitoring one frequency (even on a different band) while operating on
another. You might be waiting for a sked or a band opening, or waiting for a
chance to call one station while tuning around looking for others. Very useful
for hunt 'n'
I use my 2nd receiver to monitor the 6M band for
openings. It has a dedicated 6M antenna that's
permanently connected to the 2nd receiver's input.
