Does anyone know how to convert the VFWD readings from the KAT500 software to
actual watts out?
If I knew this reference calculation then I could eliminate my W2 from the
system. I guess I could do lots of measurements to get close but if some knows
and can share it would be a lot quicker.
Anyone have this option for sale? I am looking for these paddles.

I don't know the exact formula, but I can say that the power is
proportional to the voltage squared.
If you really want to do that, I would suggest that you set the power to
several different levels and compare the square of the VFWD to the power
output - see what the common factor is

I've been using the AlexLoop with my KX3 on SOTA, and it has worked
extremely well for me. The only real downside to it is expense, but if you
can get past that you should be very happy with it.

I connected the TX keying line connector to my K3, then the Y cable,
then the AUX cable to my KPA500. I am using the key out from the K3 to

Well, Murphy raised his ugly head this weekend during the ARRL SSCW contest.
I am operating remote and everything was working fine; the K3 radio, KTA500
tuner, and KPA500 amplifier. I was monitoring things via the Elecraft software
for the tuner and amp. I was on 80 meters and saw

attenuated by the 40 meter Low Pass Filter.
The K2 40 meter LPF cutoff is in the range of 8.5 MHz, so it cannot be

By minimizing the band width on the kx3 one can tune the loop
without transmitting with a little practice. I have used the loop once on
a Sota and I worked about 20 stations on 20 meter cw and usb . The
contacts were all over the USA.
Sad to part with my K3 to pay for emergency home repairs. Oh well, no K3
without a roof on family's head.

Thank everyone for you suggestions. Here is what I found and did to fix it.
I disassembled my station and then started connecting one thing at a time
until I found the problem.
It turned out that my Signalink USB sound card was what was picking up the
feed back and introducing it back into the K3.
The next thing you know, someone somewhere is going to claim that Elecraft
radios soldered with 63/37 solder sound superior to those soldered with a
different blend.
I used silver solder in the audio section, of course, but now I'm concerned.
Should I have used it in the RF sections too?
