GM0LEP,
Thanks for that I have run out of time as I am due to go away to work for 6
weeks or so.
I will check that the PTT line is working and may try another radio as a
driver also.
Will keep all posted later on here.
thanks

Strange issue and haven't found much by searching.
I use a MacBook Pro with my K3 and KX3. It had worked fine for rig
control and with the K3/P3/KPA utilities. I added an iMic audio
interface (bought it for the iPad and was experimenting) and setup
CocoaModem for use with the KX3 to do
I should have added that when the shack MBP is connected to the K3 and I
attempt rig control using RUMLog, it communicates with the K3 and
receives info such as freq even though it's in TX. So there's
communication there, I just can't stop the TX.

Tighe,
Check your menu CONFIG: PTT-KEY entry. Set it to OFF-OFF and see if the
problem stops.
Something in your computer setup is probably activating either RTS or
DTR or both.

Thanks to all for the suggestions…
I ended up using a plastic drafting isosceles triangle and attaching it via
electrical tape to keep the antenna upright. Here is a picture….

We’ll see how satisfied I am with that.

A little late with my report but all works quite well -- the tracking is a nice

Bingo! That was it. It was set to rts-dtr from some previous digital
mode play which oddly hadn't interfered with K3 control the last time I
used the radio.
Thanks for the quick help.

I am building the k1 kit and am at the rf board, part 1 test section. Of the
eight points to be tested on the 20 pin connector only four are showing
values. The meter on the other four is indicating of or overflow, which
the meters manual indicates as infinity. The values in the instructions do

Absolutely no sign of it here. My firmware is 4.67 which is almost the

Hi everyone, I am considering selling my K3/100, SN 4313, all current updates,
factory built, aligned and tweaked in April 2013 (when I had 2 meters
added)-has the following: K144XV, KXV3A, KFL3B-FM board, KAT3F Tuner, KBPF3 K3
general coverage module, K3 6hz 8 pole filter, KFL3A 2.8 hz
And I’ll add my input. Been using the latest firmware and it has worked
perfectly. Been too busy operating to say much. No false tunes, and the
KAT500 tracking of the K3 is outstanding.

I already have an Elecraft cable between my K3's ACC plug and my KAT500.
I'm looking for recommendations how I can hook up my PR6-10 to that

reluctant to replace it as it has been rfi proof and has the tubular

Sam,
You need a Y cable. Make certain it has all 15 wires connected
'straight through'. A VGA Y cable will have several pins connected
together and will not work - it may even create 'strange happenings'.
If you ordered the KPAK3AUX Cable Set, you have the Y cable that was

Jeremy,
Remove the tuner and you will not be bothered with the LowP messages.
In fact when testing the base K2, you should remove the tuner and
operate the basic K2 into a dummy load.

On the ohmmeter range, for the most accurate reading, use the scale that

if you are expecting greater than 10k ohms, use the 20k scale.

The fact that pins 6, 7, and 8 are designated as 'ground' indicates to
me that this is a VGA cable and those pins will be connected together.
You need a cable that is wired with all 15 pins independent of each

If you want it fast, ask
