Good Evening,
I had noise from a storm north of me during the twenty meter net.
QSB was at medium which sometimes helped. The forty meter net had
stronger signals than last week with less noise. There were folks in
the CA contest above and below me. It was hard to find an opening on

Dear Brain-Trust,
I currently use RUMLog and/or SkookumLogger for my contest work (K3S
and a Mac)….
I recently tried to work the RTTY Contest, but found the FLDIGI
interface not very smooth, could not get the integration with RUMLog working,
and then found that COCOA-Modem is

I am most likely at the end of the group, too.
I originally ordered a K4.
I change the order this past spring, to the K4D.
I "don't need" a K4, even. I have great fun wit a KX3 + PX3 + KXPA100...
I wanted a home station so that the KX3 was my portable station.
I looked at the "D" upgrade
I got a report of my K3 chirping a few years ago. My power supply
failed soon after that. During the net my CW became more and more
chirpy as time went on. Check your voltage, it may be the cause.

Just finished operating the California QSO Party as K6VO. I received a

anyone had any issues with K3s chirping? At this point it's only reported

I just reread my initial posting. Typo. I meant to say when I get the
call, not that I got the call. So sorry everyone. I know everyone is
really anxious to get their radios!

Hello all,
I am sorry if I miscommunicated. I have received several private emails
thinking I have been called and expect delivery of a K4. I have NOT been
called. I was just referring to when that time comes. I don't expect a
call for months. I was very late in the first group.

Given that the K4 can be upgraded to a K4D in the field, why don’t you start
out with the K4, how it goes, and decide to upgrade later.

I am rather late in the first prepay group and requested a K4. I was
strongly considering upgrading to the K4D when I got the call that my rig
was about ready to ship. Now that the pricing is out, I see that it is a
$900 difference. That gives me a bit of pause, not because it isn't worth

Yes the USB cable does this.
I’m fairly early in Grp 1 and I’m not convinced I’ll see mine before Xmas.

I am just curious about the estimated cost difference between the factory
version and the kits. I want to start putting aside my pennies now, and
want to have a somewhat reasonable target.
I hope for everyone on the Elecraft
Yes, same as the USB CAT and sound card for the K3S so you will just
need a usb cable to your computer. Standard drivers so no need for a
driver disk like some other radios.

Another way of looking at this is through the lens of history and
inflation. In 1969 a set of Drake twins (R-4B, T-4XB, MS-4, AC-4) cost
$1149.85 (in the 1969 Lafayette Radio catalog). That translates to
$8136.60 in 2020. I daresay that the K4's features and performance are

Terry,
the K4 will connect with a USB cable to your PC, you will not need a
Signalink. It will have a much better soundcard than the Signalink
provides. Since the K4 manuals are now online, you can download the
PDF and see for yourself.
FWIW .. you don't need the Signalink with the KX3, just

The K3S, K3 with KIO3B, and K4 all have built-in "sound cards". I've used this
capability for FT8 and RTTY with AFSK.
The single USB cable makes available a "sound card" and a virtual serial port
that looks to your PC like an RS-232 serial port.

Absolutely!
My INITIAL order for K3s w/ P3, etc. was: *$4387.87 in 2016*.
Add in *$570 for more filters* over the years (AM, FM, and HF)
THEN in Dec 2019, I did a final "fill it up" order because I saw the EOL

Plus the K4 has a large, full-color, touchscreen display, Ethernet LAN,
several USB ports, flexible antenna switching, etc. And it's all

Well, let’s think about this one a bit. I for one was not disappointed with
the pricing; I think they did a super job.
I have a K4D on first-group order for $4700. The new price adds $300. I’m ok
with that due to the extreme circumstances involved with getting parts, etc.
