be obvious, the KAT500 is trained on each band and acts
appropriately with V1.75. Why it doesn't with V2.05 is currently a
mystery. It could be a problem with this specific KAT500. I will try
another S/N soon. Lightning is approaching so I shall unplug and
disconnect.

Sure Doug. Tell Acrobat Reader to print only the "current page."
Admittedly, I have probably printed no more than handful of pages of
Elecraft manuals and just for events like Field Day.

the type of vertical which requires a counterpoise, but not radials such as

Falling supply voltage has a significant effect up the K3's SSB signal!
During a past FD, the CW Team Captain stopped the SSB station to ask what we
had changed. He was then receiving a lot of "splatter" on 20 CW while we
operated on 20 SSB.
It turned out someone had accidentally knocked the

I have learned this also applies to sports car racing Fred. This was a
difficult concept to explain to USAF colonels too.
I only use speakers when I'm doing something else in the shack and
listening, not operating, just like Jim. I can avoid any fan noise and
unwanted telephone calls.
73,
Great advice Fred! I use K3_Ez and the K3 Utility to save, then modify, and
then retrieve configurations.
I experienced a problem for a long time that I corrected using this
approach. For some reason, when using N1MM+ (or its previous version), my
Mic Gain would intermittently go to zero after
Actually, IMD in the PA increases significantly as battery voltage drops!
For example, during Field Day a few years ago someone kicked off the
generator power to our SSB station which kept operating on the back-up
battery. Sometime later the CW captain stopped by asking if we had changed
In addition to disconnecting all antenna cables and the single AC power
cord for all but my remote base radio (not connected to any other shack
gear), I unplug AC power and the DSL cord to my MODEM/router. I lost the
previous router (and many other devices) during a lightning strike years
ago.
Gerald,
I use both a PWRgate and RIGrunner. However, I run a separate, parallel
cable from the PWRgate output to the K3 to keep Voltage drop to a minimum.
The K3 has its own circuit breaker. I use the RIG runner for 12VDC
accessories.
The PWRgate has come in handy when the power supply or
