Anthony:
I almost did the same thing. Your diagnosis is correct. You have a version
that is later than the ones requiring the cut. The only thing that stopped me
from doing the same thing was that the drawing in the manual didn't seem to
match my board.
Go to page 7 in the KAT 1 manual.
Hello: I have noticed that my k1 (with the kat1) seems to have difficulty
obtaining a low SWR with most of my antenna efforts. Most of the time, it
stays at 4:1 or higher. I have been successful at obtaining 1:1, but it is
kind of hit-or-miss and only works for one band. I live in a
connections in your antenna system. An intermittent connection can
allow good tuning one time and poor results at another time.

Don:
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try those things, especially
I constructed the kat1 for my k1. I noticed that they did not include a 100 pf
capacitor for C10, but gave me an extra .001 microFarad capacitor. Don't know
if this was a packing mistake or a substitution of different value. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I am at the Alignment and Test - Part I portion of constructing the K1. All of
the tests went GREAT up to the part about Band-Pass Filter Alignment (page 40).
With the antenna connected, I hear only white noise through the headphones.
Adjustment of the slug-tuned inductors does nothing.
Hello:
I am in the midst of building the rf board for the K1. All went well until
page 30 in the manual.
I performed the voltage checks and the only one that works is the one at p1 pin
15. The others read zero on my DMM. I rechecked all soldering - no solder
bridges or cold joints. I
OUT pin and U3 pin 6, and check the soldering at
P1 pin 16.

, that is the failure point.

Woops. Sorry. I meant to say I got the correct voltage for pin 16. All
others in the chart are at .1 V.
