In the last two days we've seen a number of questions raised regarding the
KX3's I/Q output and its frequency response characteristics. In an effort to
provide some information that others may find helpful, this evening I made
several measurements of my KX3's I/Q output (early 700 S/N) using my H/P
I've been running FW 4.25 for some time now, primarily because there wasn't any
compelling reason for me to upgrade. However, this evening when I saw Wayne's
announcement for 4.39 I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately, I ran into an
unusual problem.
I've installed FW dozens of times over t
One aspect of the LP Pan/PowerSDR-IF combination that hasn't been mentioned
is that in addition to serving as a panadapter, PowerSDR-IF is a complete
receiver, totally independent of any settings on the K3 itself other than
the operating frequency. The LP Pan I/Q demodulator obtains its sample from
I have a KRC2 that, among other things, I would like to use to switch
between an HF antenna below 30 MHz and a 6 M antenna when the 50 MHz band is
selected. My KRC2 microcontroller came with V1.5 from the factory.
Because the KRC2 was originally designed with the 10 HF bands in mind, I'm

Bingo!
I restored my last config (from 1/20) and problem is gone..
Now I am trying to noodle over what configuration item may have changed
during the beta upgrade that caused it.
At any rate, a

Hi Scott,

All: This evening when running FW 3.76 I'm seeing a problem with my K3 that
I've never seen before.
When the K3 is in the LSB, USB or AM mode, adjusting the bandwidth down to
2.8 kHz will result in total loss of audio, even though the S-meter
continues to read incoming signal strength. I've tried
This evening I finished installation of the KRX3 that I ordered back in
April, and I ran into a problem with poor sensitivity on the Aux port I
thought others might be interested in.
After I completed installation of the KRX3 and went through the requisite
VCO calibration, filter setup, etc., I f

Regarding the VLF converters, one question I have for the SW folks at
Elecraft is whether they could add a transverter "band" to support these
unique receive converter IF frequencies. For example, I have a VLF converter
that I've used for years that was designed for a 4 MHz IF.

Steve: The K3's PIN diode T/R switch displays quite a bit of attenuation in
the broadcast band, especially below about 1 MHz (I've measured 18 dB
attenuation at 500 kHz).
The only solution I'm aware of is to install the KXV3. With the external
antenna input provided on this interface (which bypas
Ron: I agree with you that, unlike a typical analog receiver and product
detector demodulating either the upper or lower sideband of a full-carrier
AM signal at zero-beat, I found the K3's audio to be exceptionally clean. So
clean, in fact, it sounds like an analog synchronous detector even though
When I read about this report from Stewart last night (as well as the
responses indicating that other had experienced a similar effect) I decided
to set up the bench test to see if I could emulate the problem. I've since
discovered that these reports are valid, the K3 PA will generate a severe

It has been my experience that the KNB2 is one of the least effective noise
blankers that I've used on a current-production radio. At night, I have a
high noise level produced by malfunctioning street lights (this has been
true for the 10 years I've lived here), and the KNB2 is completely
