Hi All,
I am having trouble getting the shaft encoder to function and, therefore, the
frequency to change along with all other encoder functions. I posted this
before and got no response. So I thought I'd try again.

I am working on two K2's which both have a problem. No matter how and how hard
you turn the front panel knob, the display almost moves a couple Hertz, then
settles right back to where you started. I have no clue how fix this anomaly.
I'd welcome any insight the group can offer.
Thanks,
Bill
Hi All,
My K2 project has two snags. The first is the optical encoder. When turning
the encoder shaft, it appears to be battling with "Lock" to see who will
control the frequency. Lock always wins, although if you turn fast enough, you
can get one or two changes in the lsb. The remainder of

Can anyone tell me the design values for the termination impedances for both
the bandpass and lowpass circuits. I'd be ever so happy if it is 50 Ohms.
Thanks,

Folks,
I have a Kenwood MC60 I intend to use with my K2 when it gets to that point.
Have any others used that mic in the K2 and with what success?
Thanks,

Thanks to Don and David for their responses. Once I spread the turns on L21
and L22 I noted a couple of dB of gain. Then I got really serious with my
measurements using my 3585. The '85 said something just over 40 dBm - 10
watts. So I quit fiddling and am ready to work on the K2 auto-tuner.
Folks,
I'm having a real struggle getting 6 to 7 WATTS on 28 Mhz while all other all
other bands come up with a number well in excess of 10 Watts.
Has anyone experienced this problem and was able to solve it? I'm suspecting
low pass filters that are not coordinated to the 10 Meters Caps, if yo
Back when I was gainfully employed, we ran into a serious problem with our
metal film resistors. The film was etched in a spiral like a barber pole,
resulting in a beautiful inductor in series with the resistor as measured at
low frequency (or not at all). We had to change our tech description
Hi All,
I was extremely fortunate when I became one of the design team for the HP
3585A/B back in 1974. The spectrum analyzer has a typical dynamic range (MDS
at ARRL) of 100 dBm on screen.
The HP 3585B also has a tracking generator! You can sweep the filters and
other circuits and their fre
Hi Group,
I have been struggling for a month to figure why I have no BFO at TP2. Also,
Q24 voltages measure zero all around. The gate has a very small (10 mV peak)
distorted version of the nice sine wave on U11's nice 1V peak sinewave.
I have traced all the way back to Control Board U8 pin 2
Hi Folks,
I'd like to know from the collective wisdom what solvent may be used on
Elecraft PC assemblies to remove some residual flux and flux smears.
It seems to me that a solvent that wouldn't harm boards and components was
isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in the old days.
What do you Ele
I have a Tech 465 that no longer works for reasons unknown All I can say is
that beam finder doesn't put a dot on the screen from either channel. I really
would like to find someone who could fix it for a reasonable fee. Do we have
someone on the reflector who fixes scopes or can lead me to s
Hi Mike,
When I was a younger old man, Ulrich Rhode (Rhode and Schwartz Instruments) and
a collaborator wrote "Communications Receivers: DPS, Software Radios, and
Design, 3rd Edition". I would recommend this book most highly for an EE. It
gets highly technical in spots.
Good luck,

recall the moniker used to name them, but I'm building a second K2 and
recall pondering the same question a few years ago when K2 S/N 1599 was
underway.
I think you may find that C162 is installed on the bottom side of the RF
board. Check it out.

Hi All,
On my RF board there are holes for a capacitor, but no designation. The holes
are right next to C159 and the Q22 heat sink. Anyone know what capacitor that
is? I am missing holes for C162 for instance.
This is probably a known issue, but I still have a lot to learn!
Thanks,
Bill

My turn-on tests are all fixed now that I used my Hakko to get U3 in the proper

Hi Gang,
The Old Guy has run into an "I don't know how to fix it" situation. I made it
to the first step on page 43 where the machine turns on, says "Elecraft" for
a bit then displays 7100.00c. That's it. There is no response to key presses
and neither the bar graph S meter nor the LCD dis
Hi Folks,
I'm back from a two year bout with various health issues. During my absence,
something changed on the control board leaving C44 grounded on one end and the
other end is connected to nothing and no part to put in the holes.
I apologize if this was discussed before, and it's great to b
