r/swr was doing without the ATU on 20m.
Also, I have a 13.8 volt supply connected, 3 watts sounds a bit low?

Hi Folks,
I just finished putting together my KX1 with the ATU. I am having a problem
with it on 20m when using it through my shack tuner (viking matchbox to a
dipole up 60-70 ft). As the manual states, I place the tuner into CAL to bypass
the tuner. The problem is that it seems kind of quiet. I
Hello,
I would like to know how to unsubscribe to this list. With easily well
over 100 emails average per day from this mailing list I find myself
deleting 99 percent of it (unless I have a problem with my K2.. but
it's been flawless for a long time now). This reflector is a great

Hmm, before I dumped money into a new amp I'd say take a look at the
antenna first. The antenna is always the first place to look to improve
your signal gettin' out.

I am new to APP's. I picked up the Racheting crimper from West Mountain
Radio and a bag full of APP's at Dayton this year. So far they seem to
crimp nicely. If you're careful, you can even get 10 guage wire on the
30 amp connections (I forgot to buy 45 amps..). What I like about them

What I have done in the past sometimes is to purchase a 'factory' cable
of your choice and then put the ends you want on it. This way, you get
more or less what you want. I do this all the time with keyer paddles.

I use the Rigblaster NoMic (no microphone) with my K2. As Kevin AC0H
said, go download the manual off the west mountain radio website
(www.westmountainradio.com). I have never had a single problem with my
Rig Blaster. I highly reccomend wiring it up for PTT instead of Vox.

The replacement L1 arrived today! For everyone reading, the problem
turned out to be a small sliver of wire jammed underneath pins 3 and 5
of the AUX2 PCBoard. It was actually under the plastic part of the
connector that plugs onto the K2 control board. I broke L1 in the
process of discovering
Hi Don,
Thanks for the reply and your help! Yep, I have checked the resistances
on both the tiny inductors. They are around 8 ohms, which was within
the range that elecraft support suggested. Elecraft support suggested
that U1 pin 11 and pin 12 should be around 5 volts when no data is

Gary,
I took some measurements:
You mentioned when the K2 is not sending or receiving data that U1 pin
11 and pin 12 should both be 5 volts. Pin 12 is 5 volts, but Pin 11 is
0 volts. I also verified that U6 Pin 25 is 5 volts and U6 Pin 26 is 0
volts. What could cause U6 Pin 26 to be 0 volts?
I have been working with the KIO2 for a while to try to get it to work.
It's never really worked since I put it in.
Today I verified with another PC that the K2 does indeed send data
through the KIO2 but it does not receive. I ran the test as described
on page 14 of the KIO2 manual. Steps 1,2,
Just a quick correction:
Shielded RJ-45 cable and plugs exist and you can purchase them today. I
can't remember, but are all the pins used on the special cable that
connects the KIO2 to the computer? If not, then eight pins are plenty.
Since most everyone doesn't have an RJ-45 crimper - the ca
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the great feedback. There have been alot of great

what's right for one person might be totally wrong for the next. It
sounds like I have a few options based on some great suggestions:

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, if not.. I'm sorry. I've
been mulling around the idea of buying a really nice set of paddles.

Jim,
I built my K2 on my kitchen table in my apartment (I was single at the
time so I could get away with having electronics sprawled on the table
for months on end - my kitchen was never used when I was a bachelor
hehe). The only anti static protection I had was a wrist strap clamped

I've had good luck with cheapqsls.com, I was able to send them an image

I took the K2 #2735 out of my storage case and played around a bit. I
got it hooked up to Spectrogram and followed the instructions in the
PDF written by N0SS provided on the elecraft website. Most of the
filters were dead-on. The only one that was off for CW was the 2.4 khz
filter, which I adj
The filters in my K2 have always been a little weird. Tuning around,
the signal would always peak at the wrong point and then drop when it's
at the correct sidetone frequency. I lived with it for a while. I
finally took some initiative and tried it out with spectrogram and
using the Elecraft no

Mike,
I'd say its better to build the K2 as-is first, then add the modules one at a
time. It's far easier to trouble shoot if you have any problems going along
without the otherstuff already changed. With a good solder sucker it doesn't
take long at all to remove whatever components necessary.
I prefer to use my K2 on CW only as well. I bought the SSB Module in case I
would like to try other digital modes such as RTTY or PSK. I haven't heard the
K2 without the SSB module so I'm not sure how to compare the filters, but the
filters with the SSB module do sound nice and I've never had a
I definitely think it's grey. I don't think there is a touch of green in it at
all.. but that is my opinion. A densitometer would probably answer that
question. I have one here, perhaps I can bring the K2 into work and check it
out?!
I wonder if anyone out there has customized their k2 cases a

Dave,
Congratulations on your first QSO with the KX1 and your 2nd QSO ever! It's a
very exciting thing to have someone answer you on a radio that you built and
put together. Best of luck with your KX1 and hope you have many more QSO's!
