That's correct, the 3CX1500A7 and D7 are completely different tubes. My
remarks were from experience with the 3CX1500A7, the 8877. I don't know
anything about the D7. If the tube is a 3CX, then it's a Triode (unless the
coding has changed).

40-50 ma of grid current should get you about 1500 W out. Don't over drive
the tube and it will last for years and years.
Eimac tests the 8877 key down at 30 MHz , 3kw for hours before it's sold.
It's a very good tube.

I've done the same with many rigs. I currently use a K2 and Omni VI. The TT
has a nice CW note at 450Hz. I'm thinking of adding a roofing filter to the
TT to get the receiver up to the K2 standard.
