All,
I notice an S7 spur on 147.48 MHz, which is our local CERT simplex net.
Using an HT, it seems strongest right above the LCD display on the rig.
It wipes out copy of weak stations on a separate mobile rig as well. Spur
is unchanged with any setting on the K3 and does not go away

After upgrading to MCU 04.83 I have a strong birdie (S6) on 28004.560 kHz.
I think I read about someone having the same, just only a short while after
power ON.
This one is constantly present and is quite annoying.
What is causing it and how may it be removed?

Quite annoying? Really? Far too much fuss over one tiny spot in a very
large band!

Some KAT500 users have reported this. There is an Idle Sleep configuration
option in the KAT500 Utility that helps this. Test first by removing the
KAT500 power plug to see of that's the issue. I don't know if you have a

Well this is not a small birdie and it is very obnoxious. It is S7 here. My
KAT has had it from day one and my SN is in the 30's. I reported it back when
the unit was 1st put in service. Recently when the issue surfaced here again I
sent in a copy of my prior correspondence on it to
Yes, we're definitely working on a way to move the crystal frequency. (This
applies to both the KAT500 and the KXPA100.) I'll post again once we have
modification kits ready.

Wes,
The level of corrosion shown in your photos is so bizarre that it is of general
scientific interest. Therefore, I'm going to replace your board at no charge
just so we can see if it happens again. Despite the 6% humidity. Please call CS
to make the arrangements. Tell them Wayne sent you.
Hi,
Absolutely no sign of it here. My firmware is 4.67 which is almost the
latest.

It's definitely internal. Anyone else have this?

Hey Guys,
I'm playing in the CQWW contest and just found something alarming. I was
around 28.043 and thought someone was tuning. When I transmitted I noticed the
signal go away and then when finished it slowly came back. Kind of a slow
start that took about 1/2 second to rise up to full

It can happen... depends on a lot of factors.
Good news is you can map the birdie out now in software.

I finally found my first fast moving birdie at 21272 and had a chance to see
what the tool does. It took 3-4 segments to wipe it out, but it completely
went away. Very nice!!

I observe the same conditions although the frequency is slightly
different - probably due to different filter offsets and CW pitch.
After looking, I see similar signals at 50.030 and 50.078 that
change tone with the shift control.
In all three cases, the responses are the same with either

I recall a long time ago that Tom Hammond, N0SS, reported that he
originally had an unexpected birdie with his Field Test K3. I believe
that he stopped the birdie from signing by tightening up a screw on the
side panel... perhaps the one that secured the left side panel to the
internal shield.

Hi Ken and Alexandr:
Yes... BE SURE that all screws securing the front shield (to which the KSYN3 is
attached) is well grounded to the RF PC board, and to the sides and top cover
by ensuring that all screws are snug... but DO NOT tighten them to the point
that you risk damaging the screw
